Halloween Temptation

by Marian Cates
Halloween is almost upon us.
What do I do to get ready? I turn off my porch light and try to keep my dog quiet.
Why? Am I stingy? Do I hate kids.
No I am not cheap. And I like kids.
The Most Prevalent Eating Disorder
The problem: I suffer from the most prevalent eating disorder of them all: overeating, especially of sweets.
I'm fine if I get a bunch of trick-or-treaters, because then the candy goes fast. But if I only get one or two ... disaster. I'll eat and eat and eat until I'm sick to my stomach on Halloween night.
The Trick Was On Me
One year I bought a bunch of candy that I didn't like, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Ha-ha, I thought, this candy will be eaten only by the trick-or-treaters, because I hate it.
The trick was on me when I suddenly developed a taste for peanut butter cups. They became my new favorite treat.
Definition of treat: something that cannot be in my house, because I will eat, eat, eat until it's all gone.
Pitiful, I know.
Hmmm ... wonder why I have a sudden craving for peanut butter cups ... Excuse me for a moment while I check my cupboards. There just may be one little package hidden way in the back of one.
